In the Region of Leipzig, applied research meets internationally renowned universities – everyone benefits from this innovation potential.

Three Max Planck institutes, two Frauenhofer institutes, a Helmholz Centre, a Leibnitz institute and the German Biomass Research Centre – in addition to numerous other research facilities, they are some of the driving forces of the local economy.

Sustainable applications are being developed together with and on behalf of the local companies, particularly in the areas of life sciences and biotechnology as well as energy and environmental technology. These research and development strengths build a long-term pillar of the economic Region of Leipzig.

Specialists for all fields of study are educated at 11 universities in the region. For example, the Leipzig Graduate School of Management (Handelshochschule Leipzig, or HHL) is one of the most respected business schools in Europe and is Germany’s premier address for management training and the development of young specialists.
