Just as chemistry is what holds the world together at its core, the chemical industry is the key and foundation for numerous other economic sectors. With the city of Böhlen forming part of the Central German Chemical Triangle, the Leipzig Region is one of Germany’s most essential and flourishing chemical industry locations.
At the centre of the Leipzig region’s chemical industry is the Dow Olefinverbund GmbH plant. Together with the Dow plants in Schkopau, Leuna and Teutschenthal in neighbouring Saxony-Anhalt, this forms a highly integrated materials network for the chemical industry that directly connects to global material and goods flows.
The Leipzig Region has plenty of generous spaces remaining for chemical businesses to set up or expand their production capabilities with well-established chemical supply chains and infrastructures that are ready to use.

At the Böhlen plant, Dow basic plastic materials such as ethylene, acrylates, butadiene and aniline, and styrene and hydrocarbon resins are produced.
In addition, the company operates the ValuePark on-site and in Schkopau. This chemical park for plastics producers, plastics processing companies and chemical-related service providers is now home to 27 national and international companies from the fields of production and logistics, raw material supplies and research and technology services.
Thanks to Böhlen Chemical Park’s connection to the existing hydrogen pipeline network, the available space is also ideally suited for hydrogen companies. For example, the global corporation Air Liquide [external link] operates a production facility for technical gases here. The hydrogen pipeline runs from Zeitz via Böhlen, Leuna, Schkopau and Bitterfeld-Wolfen to Rodleben.
ValuePark provides comprehensive services and optimal infrastructure, offering excellent conditions for investors interested in a long-term and cost-effective production site.

Chemical education and development in the Leipzig Region
The Leipzig Region is home to many skilled chemists and chemical industry professionals thanks to the variety of courses offered by the University of Leipzig and the Leipzig University of Applied Sciences (HTWK Leipzig). These also offer perfect opportunities for employees to upskill and continue their professional development while working for you to ensure your company grows.
Living in the Leipzig Region
Leipzig is often called “the new Berlin” and is the perfect location for scientists, researchers, plant workers and executives within chemical businesses. With great public transport around the region as well as cyclist-friendly traffic layouts, the daily commute is easy and enjoyable. If people want to travel further, Leipzig is located at a junction for major railway lines across the country, with the international Leipzig/Halle airport only 30 minutes from the city centre.
The cost of living is almost half of what it is in Berlin with low crime rates so you can feel safe wherever you live. The Leipzig Region also has a range of facilities for all ages including multi-lingual schools, parks, zoos, opera houses, sports venues and plenty of nightlife.
