Innovation Agency chooses Leipzig as its location
Leipzig wins location bid for Agentur für Sprunginnovationen! Leipzig distinguished itself from other large cities such as Potsdam, Karlsruhe, Cologne and Dortmund primarily through its position as a beacon of innovation.
During a comprehensive location analysis, a delegation managed by the agency's founding director, Rafael Laguna de la Vera, visited Leipzig and was impressed by the city's high potential for innovation, which in the end is what lead them to choose Leipzig. "This decision, 30 years after the peaceful revolution, is also a political signal. For me personally, things come full-circle here: 45 years after I left the former GDR, I can now help to harness and strengthen the enormous spirit of optimism in Leipzig," said Rafael Laguna de la Vera to the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy.
Thanks to the excellent collaboration between the State Chancellery of Saxony, the Office for Economic Development of the City of Leipzig, Wirtschaftsförderung Sachsen (Saxony Economic Development Corporation), and Invest Region Leipzig GmbH, Agentur für Sprunginnovationen was convinced to move to Leipzig. "We are very pleased that we were able to support this important establishment in Leipzig and would like to welcome the Agentur für Sprunginnovationen!" said Michael Körner, Managing Director.
The agency aims to promote cutting-edge innovations in science, research and business to create successful ideas, products and thus jobs. The Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) has announced that the agency will initially be planned as an experimental project for a limited period of ten years. The total funding requirement for this period is expected to be around one billion euros.
