Europe’s new freight hub

The Region of Leipzig is an attractive location for logistics companies due to its central position in Europe and a trimodal traffic connection with the second-largest freight airport in Germany. With companies such as DHL, Lufthansa Cargo, DB Schenker and Kühne + Nagel, this is one of the top logistics regions in the country.

The combination of logistically ideal and relevant locational factors, the powerful logistics clusters which have been establishing themselves for years as well as their bundled logistics know-how is extraordinary in a nation-wide comparison. It forms an important cornerstone for the development of the region towards a modern, effective economic location with international significance.

With its 24-hour operation, Leipzig/Halle Airport is a significant locational factor and the reason for well-known producers such as BMW, Porsche, Future Electronics or Dow Chemical settling in its vicinity. Its freight volume of 1,4 million tons (2020) makes it one of the top 5 cargo hubs in Europe. On 40,000 m² and with 6000 employees, DHL Express operates its largest European logistics location and one of its three global hubs here. A multitude of logistics service providers of different sizes and specialisations maintain locations around this logistical hub in the north of Leipzig. Other large, interrelated property near the motorway is available for logistics investors at moderate prices and at short-notice.

The airport is supplemented by a connected trimodal freight traffic centre at the intersection of the traffic axes from Scandinavia to southern Europe and from the Benelux region to eastern Europe. A large part of the most important European economic areas can be reached from here within a maximum of ten hours by truck via four congestion-free motorways. As a consequence, the Region of Leipzig also offers an affordable and ideally located possibility for the local industry, e-commerce and tradespeople to access the growing markets in eastern Europe and Asia.
