Advanced Manufacturing
Home for world market leaders and "hidden champions"
With a mixed landscape of well-established and innovative start-up companies, the leading manufacturing industry of the future is thriving in the Leipzig Region.
Together with Dresden, Leipzig forms one of 12 Digital Hubs of the Federal Government (BMWi) throughout Germany. In the Leipzig Region, the local digitalisation focus of the De:hub is on smart infrastructure in energy, smart city and e-health.
Machines and vehicles manufactured in the Leipzig Region have traditionally stood for the highest quality and have been in demand worldwide since industrialisation. In the past, printing and bookbinding machines, automatic turning spindle machines, aeroplanes or cable cars (like the one to Table Mountain in Cape Town) meant “made in Leipzig” shone worldwide.
The future-orientated manufacturing industry in the Leipzig Region has expanded and developed, especially in digitalisation. In addition to classic mechanical and plant engineering, lightweight construction and material processing, leading manufacturers are exploring additive and digital manufacturing, Industry 4.0 and Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT), plus the topic of cyber security in manufacturing to pave the way for a sustainable, competitive and healthy global manufacturing industry.
Thus, in addition to traditional global market leaders such as Kirow Ardelt, Schaudt Mikrosa or BGH Edelstahl Lippendorf, the Leipzig Region is also home to highly innovative and successful young manufacturing companies like Sage, In-Tech or Rhebo.
