The ScaDS.AI (Center for Scalable Data Analytics and Artificial Intelligence), the national and interdisciplinary centre of excellence for artificial intelligence, has been based in the Leipzig Region since 2014.

The Institute for Applied Informatics InfAI in Leipzig has been advising companies on their digitalisation and researching application-oriented IT and communication solutions at the interface to the economy since 2006. Since 2016, InfAI has also been helping ICT companies move from research to reality with its incubator.

The interdisciplinary research institute of the University of Leipzig ICCAS – Innovation Centre for Computer-Assisted Surgery – was also founded in the Leipzig Region back in 2005. A new €50M AI data centre (KIRZL) will be built at the university by 2026.

Once a year, Europe’s biggest hacker conference, the Chaos Communication Congress, brings together the top league of European ICT specialists at the Leipzig Exhibition Center.
