4th place among the most liveable cities in Europe +++ Sustainable development as a focus of the conference programme +++ City of Leipzig in 3rd place in the fdi ranking "European Cities and Regions of the Future 2024" & Leipzig region in 3rd place among the "Small European Regions" +++
Leipzig, 7 March 2024: Invest Region Leipzig (IRL) and the City of Leipzig will once again be exhibiting at the world's leading real estate trade fair MIPIM in Cannes from 12 to 15 March 2024. This year, the focus will be on marketing Leipzig as an innovative and sustainable business location with great potential for investors and project developers.
Sustained growth and high demand
The Leipzig region has developed into one of the most important business locations in Germany in recent years. Conveniently located commercial sites, a high quality of life and unprecedented population growth speak in favour of the location. With a current population of around 630,000, the Saxon metropolis now ranks seventh among Germany's largest cities. Leipzig attracts young people like almost no other location - the average age of its residents is 42.1 years, well below the national average of 44.6 years.
Just recently, Leipzig once again achieved outstanding successes: 3rd place in the fdi ranking "European Cities and Regions of the Future 2024" for the city of Leipzig and 3rd place in the "Small European Regions" category for the Leipzig region. The city and the Leipzig region will accept the awards at MIPIM. "The good ranking is a sign of Leipzig's positive development and confirms the path we have taken. Leipzig is growing continuously. Our economy is stable on several pillars: premium automotive, European energy trading centre and strong research in health and biotechnology. This makes us strong and resilient, which is impressively demonstrated by our stable upward trend in recent years," said Economic Mayor Clemens Schülke.
Pioneering investments for the city and district of Leipzig
For the city of Leipzig, pioneering projects are taking centre stage at MIPIM. On the BioCity Campus near the city centre, 100,000 m² of modern office, laboratory and workshop space will be created for interested companies by 2025. 42 companies from the biotechnology and biomedicine sectors have already settled here. With a vision clearly defined by the city of Leipzig for the coming years, Bio City is being further developed into a top life sciences location. Another exciting project is the Digital Hub on the site of the former cotton mill in the west of Leipzig. In future, future research in the fields of smart city, energy and e-health will be driven forward here. This initiative will create an attractive environment for innovations, start-ups and established companies.
The fact that it is not only the city of Leipzig that is committed to innovation and sustainability, but that awareness of sustainable investment is also very high in the district, is demonstrated by the Zwenkau Green Business Park, which the IRL is presenting on site. Zwenkau is focussing on companies in the fields of renewable energies and hydrogen technologies. On the one hand, this makes an ecological statement and, on the other, specifically attracts future-orientated companies to settle here.

Leipzig at the German Cities & Regions Pavilion at MIPIM
This year's MIPIM will focus on topics such as sustainability and diversity in the property industry. The city and region of Leipzig will actively contribute to these topics with its projects and present its expertise in these areas at the German Cities & Regions Pavilion (stand R8.D24) together with the city and region of Hanover and the Rhine-Neckar metropolitan region.
"Leipzig is an attractive and sustainable business location with great potential for investors and project developers. The city and region of Leipzig offer an innovative environment and forward-looking projects in the fields of biotechnology, digitalisation and renewable energies. MIPIM 2024 is an excellent platform to showcase these strengths to an international audience and make new contacts," says Michael Körner, Managing Director of the IRL.
