Captain T Cell Expands to Leipzig

Defeating cancer – Captain T Cell GmbH aims to make an important contribution to this ambitious goal. The spin-off from the Max Delbrück Center for Molecular Medicine in Berlin is developing novel immunotherapies in which the body's T cells play a key role. Using an innovative technology approach, these cells are modified to recognize and eliminate cancer cells more effectively.

Captain T Cell will now establish part of its operational activities in Leipzig, particularly the manufacturing of patient-specific cell products for a planned clinical trial. The team led by CEO Dr. Felix Lorenz (pictured right) and COO Dr. Janna Hachmann (left) found suitable laboratory space at the BioCity Campus in the heart of Leipzig. Covering around 100,000 square meters, the campus is already home to numerous companies and renowned research institutes. Captain T Cell's most important cooperation partner in Leipzig, the Fraunhofer Institute for Cell Therapy and Immunology (IZI), is also located in the immediate vicinity.

“We highly value this collaboration. The team at IZI brings a high level of scientific expertise and extensive experience,” says COO Dr. Janna Hachmann.

Close Proximity and a Highly Professional Environment

More broadly, the BioCity Campus provides the kind of environment that a growing biotechnology company such as Captain T Cell needs. “The campus is well connected and embedded in an established life sciences ecosystem. For us, this means close proximity to our cooperation partners and a professional environment in which Captain T Cell can establish and grow its operations over the long term,” Dr. Janna Hachmann continues.

Invest Region Leipzig GmbH (IRL) supported the company throughout the location process, including assistance in finding suitable premises and facilitating contacts through its extensive network.

Michael Körner, Managing Director of IRL, says: “With its research activities and innovative technology, Captain T Cell is an excellent fit for Leipzig’s growing life sciences ecosystem. We wish the entire team every success in the years ahead!”
