The Leipzig Region at Expo Real in Munich

Invest Region Leipzig GmbH (IRL) will showcase the Leipzig Region at Expo Real in Munich from 5 to 7 October 2026. More than 40,000 industry professionals from around 70 countries are once again expected to attend one of Europe’s leading trade fairs for real estate, investment and infrastructure. Together with its shareholders, the City of Leipzig and the District of Leipzig, IRL will present a selection of attractive investment locations and development sites across the region.

Premium Sites in the City of Leipzig

One of the City of Leipzig’s key projects is the Airport Industrial Park. Covering around 100 hectares and located directly adjacent to Leipzig/Halle Airport and the world’s largest DHL hub, the industrial park offers excellent access to air, road and rail infrastructure, providing ideal conditions for future growth. The BioCity Campus, a hotspot for life sciences and biotechnology in the heart of Leipzig, brings together research institutes, universities, start-ups and established companies. A total of around 100,000 m² of office and laboratory space is available at the campus. Another highlight is TechPark Leipzig. Covering approximately 13 hectares in the north-east of the city, the new innovation park is being developed specifically for companies and research institutions active in the fields of energy, environmental technologies and chemistry.

Future-Oriented Projects in the District of Leipzig

Expo Real will also provide a platform for attractive projects from the District of Leipzig, including the Dow ValuePark Böhlen. Across approximately 400 hectares, fully serviced sites are available for immediate development, offering extensive permits for chemical and industrial production as well as excellent infrastructure connections to federal roads, motorways, the rail network and Germany’s hydrogen core network. Sustainability is at the heart of the approximately 40-hectare Green Business Park Zwenkau, which is aimed at companies in the fields of renewable energy and innovative technologies and is designed to set a strong benchmark for sustainable commercial development. In Borna, a regional centre within the District of Leipzig, several sites are available. These include the 35-hectare Waldstraße Business Park, located directly next to the planned Borna Energy Park, as well as the centrally located SO2 Kasernengelände, which offers strong potential for research, education or healthcare facilities. The Seenallee Markkleeberg site will also be presented at Expo Real. This centrally located, undeveloped commercial property offers development potential for uses including hotels and office space.

Strong Presence at the Central German Joint Exhibition Stand

IRL and its shareholders, the City of Leipzig and the District of Leipzig, will once again be represented at the joint exhibition stand of the Central German Metropolitan Region (Hall C1, Stand 220/320). Visitors and exhibitors will have the opportunity to meet directly with IRL staff and representatives from across the region.

This year, the IRL team will be joined by the mayors of Borna and Markkleeberg, Oliver Urban and Karsten Schütze, as well as Holger Schulz, Mayor of Zwenkau. They will use the event to explore solutions and development opportunities for their commercial sites and to establish contacts with potential investors. Their participation highlights the close cooperation between the municipalities and IRL, as well as their shared commitment to the economic development of the entire region.

Dynamic Business Location with Significant Development Potential

The Leipzig Region is one of Germany’s major business locations. Its excellent infrastructure, availability of attractive commercial and office space, skilled workforce, high quality of life, and strong research and innovation ecosystem continue to attract new companies to both the City of Leipzig and the surrounding district. Leipzig also stands out in the field of digital transformation: in 2026, it was once again the only major city in eastern Germany to rank among the Top 10 in Germany’s Smart City Index.
