“German Vietnam Hub” planned in Leipzig
Leipzig aims to become the central point of contact in Germany for companies from Vietnam. To achieve this, the City of Leipzig and Invest Region Leipzig GmbH, together with the Leipzig Chamber of Industry and Commerce (IHK) and Leipzig University, are planning to establish a “German Vietnam Hub.”
The signing of a Letter of Intent was at the heart of Vietnamese Ambassador Nguyen Dac Thanh’s visit to Leipzig on August 28. In addition to the participating partners, Dirk Panter, Saxony’s State Minister for Economic Affairs, Labour, Energy and Climate Action, also attended the signing ceremony.
Facilitating economic cooperation, investment and knowledge transfer
The City of Leipzig has maintained close ties with Vietnam for decades, particularly in the areas of business, science and skilled workforce development. Regular delegation visits and joint projects between companies from Leipzig and Vietnam continue to strengthen these relations. Since 2021, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam’s largest city and economic center, has been an official partner city of Leipzig. The Leipzig Region is also home to the largest Vietnamese community in Germany.
The “German Vietnam Hub” will further strengthen these ties. In particular, the initiative will focus on sectors such as IT and the digital economy, GreenTech and energy, life sciences, semiconductors and chips, as well as science and research.
“With the German Vietnam Hub, we are building a bridge between Vietnamese and German companies. We want to facilitate investment in both directions and create new business opportunities. Vietnam is an important economic partner for Germany. Through the Hub, we aim to bring together services, match the right partners, and facilitate cooperation and knowledge transfer. Leipzig is the natural location for this: 75 years of established relations with Vietnam and the town twinning with Ho Chi Minh City provide a unique foundation for this,” explains Leipzig’s Mayor for Economic Affairs, Clemens Schülke.
