16 New Investments for the Leipzig Region – IRL Results 2025

With its dedicated acquisition and investment support activities, Invest Region Leipzig GmbH (IRL) once again strengthened the Leipzig economic region as a dynamic investment location in 2025. In line with the objectives set by its shareholders, the City of Leipzig and the Leipzig district, IRL focused in particular on high-growth innovation clusters and key sectors: the digital economy, life sciences, GreenTech, manufacturing, chemicals, and the semiconductor industry.

Over the past year, the Invest Region Leipzig team identified and approached more than 12,000 companies worldwide. This work also included participation in more than 60 trade fairs and conferences in Germany and abroad.

Despite a year marked by economic and geopolitical challenges, a total of 16 new investment projects were successfully realized, bringing 284 jobs to the region. Most of the new businesses were in the digital economy and life sciences sectors.

The region’s positive international perception is further underscored by another top ranking in the „European Cities and Regions of the Future 2025“ ranking by fDi Intelligence, a publication of the British Financial Times. Leipzig was ranked among the top five mid-sized European cities for FDI strategy.

Location Marketing – Campaigns for Maximum Visibility

The online marketing campaign #LeipzigUnlimited, launched in 2024, continued in 2025. Together with the City of Leipzig, the Leipzig district, and the Leipzig Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IHK zu Leipzig) as a financing partner, Invest Region Leipzig uses the campaign to promote the Leipzig economic region nationwide. At the heart of #LeipzigUnlimited are the voices of successful entrepreneurs highlighting the region’s location advantages. In total, the campaign achieved around 18 million impressions last year through advertising on Google and LinkedIn—significantly surpassing the results of 2024. This figure clearly demonstrates that the Leipzig economic region is a location with a future—for companies, investors, and talent alike.

Another online campaign presented the Leipzig district as an attractive location for investment and business settlement in spring 2025. This campaign also included advertisements on Google and LinkedIn as well as a dedicated landing page. In addition to highlighting the district’s general location advantages, the campaign placed a specific focus on the clusters of chemicals & plastics and energy & environment. Within just six weeks, the campaign generated more than 2.6 million impressions.

Skilled Workforce Services – Tailored Support for Companies

In 2025, Invest Region Leipzig’s skilled workforce services continued their ongoing activities to support investors and attract skilled professionals—whether through connecting companies with relevant partners from education and human resources management, providing useful data for investors, or the (co-)organization of practice-oriented events with a focus on talent.

In November, two successful networking formats were continued: the Tech Talent Night (together with Cluster IT Mitteldeutschland e.V., EnergieNetzWerk Mitteldeutschland e.V., and IHK zu Leipzig) and Work in Leipzig (in cooperation with Leipzig University and HWTK Leipzig). Once again, both events placed the attractive career opportunities in the Leipzig region at center stage and were met with strong interest from both participating companies and talent.

By supporting a delegation trip by the City of Leipzig to Vietnam as part of the 50th anniversary of the city partnership with Ho Chi Minh City, Invest Region Leipzig also continued its international activities in the field of skilled workforce development.

Results of Sustainable Efforts

The sustainability of Invest Region Leipzig’s work was also demonstrated in 2025 by the opening of new facilities by two major companies in the Leipzig district. With total investments amounting to €240 million, more than 500 jobs are expected to be created in the long term.

At the end of November, Skeleton Technologies (IRL settlement 2023) inaugurated the world’s largest factory for supercapacitors in Markranstädt. Guests at the opening included Estonian Prime Minister Kristen Michal, Saxony’s Minister-President Michael Kretschmer, Minister of Science Sebastian Gemkow, Markranstädt’s Mayor Nadine Stitterich, and District Administrator Henry Graichen.

At the end of October, OPES Solar Mobility (IRL settlement 2024) had already opened its new production facility in Zwenkau. On an area of around 12,000 square meters, innovative photovoltaic modules specifically designed for commercial and recreational vehicles are being produced.
