Roofeco Solar
“Solar energy is no longer just a trend – it is a key building block for a sustainable future. Yet the decision to install a solar roof is often difficult due to cost or aesthetic concerns,” says Norbert Fischer, Managing Director of Roofeco Solar GmbH & Co. KG.
An asset for the future-oriented GreenTech sector
This is exactly where his company in Borna comes in: Roofeco Solar combines state-of-the-art photovoltaic technology with an integrated roofing system. The system is made entirely from recycled plastic enhanced with nanotechnology, ensuring that color, structure, and performance remain permanently intact. Additional advantages include its low CO2 footprint, comparatively affordable purchase price, and lightweight construction (a Roofeco Solar roof is more than 70 percent lighter than a conventional clay tile roof!). In addition, the patented connection system enables fast and uncomplicated installation.
“With Roofeco Solar, the Leipzig economic region is gaining another high-caliber company. With its innovative product, the company adds an exciting new dimension to the future-oriented GreenTech sector,” says Michael Körner, Managing Director of Invest Region Leipzig GmbH.
Start-up support and growth potential
“From the very beginning, there was a shared understanding that the company should be established in a region that actively supports start-ups and offers suitable conditions for growth,” emphasizes Norbert Fischer. “In this context, discussions were held with several German federal states, including Thuringia, Northern Bavaria, Saxony, and Brandenburg, in order to evaluate the respective funding opportunities and support services available. Invest Region Leipzig proved to be a key point of contact, connecting us with relevant stakeholders at an early stage and facilitating exchanges with the responsible authorities.”
Comprehensive support by Invest Region Leipzig
In the end, the decision was made in favor of Saxony – and more specifically for Borna in the Leipzig district. With the support of Invest Region Leipzig, Roofeco Solar found a suitable factory building there. “As a former briquette factory, the site not only offers functional advantages but also carries a unique historical symbolism for a company focused on renewable energy generation,” says Norbert Fischer. The location at the heart of the Central German Metropolitan Region, the high quality of life in the district, and the available GRW funding also provided important arguments in favor of Borna.
In addition, Invest Region Leipzig provided Roofeco Solar with services from its skilled labor support program. Among other things, the company was able to present itself as an attractive employer at two high-profile networking events. “Work in Leipzig,” organized by Invest Region Leipzig in cooperation with the Career Service of Leipzig University and Leipzig University of Applied Sciences (HTWK) in November 2025, took place for the ninth time. Meanwhile, the “Career Networking Night Leipzig,” held in cooperation with the Leipzig campus of FernUniversität in Hagen in January 2026, celebrated its premiere. Both events connected Roofeco Solar with numerous talented professionals in attendance.
“We would like to sincerely thank Invest Region Leipzig, especially Ms. Zurl and Ms. Böhm, for their valuable support throughout the entire decision-making process as well as for the continued excellent assistance during the implementation phase,” says Norbert Fischer.
